- Repairs and overhauls of port cranes engines automatic and manual transmissions.
- Reads job order and observes and listens to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
- Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle/equipment.
- Removes unit such as engine, transmission or differential.
- Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear.
- Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
- Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts.
- Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps.
- Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
- Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices, and makes adjustments.
- Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired vehicle to verify conformance to specifications.
- Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.
- Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields or other devices in accordance with drawings.
- Conducts preventive maintenance service on all types of equipment.
- Ensures work conforms to safety rules and regulation.
